9/19/24

We worked on some house projects today. My husband finished the electric for the schoolroom addition, and the kids and I started painting the house.

Moments I loved:

My daughter enthusiastically repeating how much she loved painting houses. She said she would never get tired of it and I said I’d remind her of that tomorrow or the next day. My oldest brought up Miranda rights, because he’s into government/law right now.

On the subject of Leo’s government/law obsession, I proofread his 9 page essay this afternoon- a commentary on the first three federalist papers.

My toddler saw me calling Lamby out of the yard after the other goats had jumped out and temporarily abandoned him for greener pastures. Perry promptly went in the yard to help and said in his sweetest voice “it’s ok, I’m nice” as he does anytime he’s trying to coax an animal, and led Lamby to find the gate, from where he ran to catch up with the big goats.

I started writing the hard moments too, like how we found a drowned baby chicken, but realize there’s no need. The good outweighs the bad, and there’s no point in balancing it. It was a sweet day. Justin and I laughed throughout the day over inside jokes and silly small things. The kids were playful and wild and helpful and kind. Leo ran ahead to get the door for me. Everyone made baby Willa laugh. She fell asleep nursing as the dusk light shone behind the silhouette of her soft curls.
