It’s easy to make your own healthy toothpaste! This 3 ingredient version cleans better than any other toothpaste I’ve ever used and without any harmful additives! Besides that, it’s cost effective and takes just a couple minutes to make.
It will scrub away plaque, whiten naturally, and even balance your mouth’s PH levels!
You’ve heard the rule to not put products on your skin that you wouldn’t eat (since, as it’s absorbed into the bloodstream, you may as well have eaten it). Well, with toothpaste, you actually are basically eating it, so it’s really important to make sure the ingredients are ones that are benefiting, not harming, your mouth and body.
Toxic chemicals in toothpastes and antibacterial mouthwashes are horrible things to be putting in our mouths! (Yes, including fluoride!) Askthedentist.com has a great article addressing specific ingredients.
There are thankfully a lot of “clean” options for toothpastes now, but they often still have questionable ingredients (an unexpected one being essential oils- the reason is their antibacterial properties. From a microbiome standpoint, we want bacteria in our mouths and guts! The mouth is the doorway to the gut. Killing all the “germs” disrupts the healthy balance our bodies are meant to have in order to thrive.)
Remineralization is a key to dental health- our mouths actually have the ability to prevent and even repair deficiencies like small cavities! Unfortunately a main ingredient in most toothpastes, clean included, is glycerin, which, while non-toxic, leaves a film on the teeth that can prevent them from remineralizing.
A powder may take a little getting used to, but once you do, you’ll never want to go back! To use a toothpaste powder, simply dip your toothbrush in and start brushing. No water needed, your saliva will do the trick.
If you really want more of a paste, you can mix with coconut oil until powder forms a paste! Coconut oil is great for teeth cleaning and whitening.

Ingredients and instructions:
Calcium carbonate powder– the remineralizing agent
Xylitol powder – fights cavity causing bacteria and sweetens naturally
Baking soda– whitens and alkalizes
Mix:
1 part baking soda
2 parts calcium carbonate
1-2 parts xylitol (depending on how sweet you want it)

That’s it! Store in small jars or containers. Dip your toothbrush in powder to scoop up a little, and brush like usual!
